This course presents a cross-cultural and historical survey of some of the world's myths, employing the perspectives of psychology, anthropology, and literary analysis to provide a greater understanding of the ways in which the themes and patterns of myth, folklore, epics and legends provide insights into individual human experience, as well as shapes national, regional and ethnic identities. Visual art, music and modern cinema will help us explore the levels in which ancient myths play a role in 21st century American society and an appreciation of the way that mythology interacts with artistic production.

Storytelling Syllabus

EN 265 - Storytelling
Cogswell College

A course designed for CVI majors. This course teaches the art of storytelling and improvisational acting. Students become involved in individual story development and re-enactment, as well as group participation in storytelling. Students also explore the concepts of spontaneity and original expression thorough improvisation and playacting.
